KSA & UGANDA

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Uganda have long enjoyed friendly relations, which have grown and developed over the years, strengthened by common interests, mutual benefit, and reinforced through reciprocal visits between the two countries. Relations between the two nations have witnessed increasing cooperation in defense, economy, science, and society.

Recently, reciprocal visits have enhanced multilateral cooperation on global issues such as terrorism, human rights, refugees, and social development. At the same time, there are currently about 200,000 Ugandan migrant workers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, who transferred nearly a billion dollars last year.

There are also numerous successful experiences of Ugandan workers achieving their aspirations and creating private projects that have had a positive impact on their lives, helping their families and communities.

On July 19, 2022, the Ugandan newspaper Daily Monitor highlighted, through its "Reader Comments" section, many success stories of female workers in Saudi Arabia within just a few years. These include those who bought land or built homes for personal use or rental, in addition to many other success stories documented by the newspaper.

The two countries have worked together bilaterally in multilateral arenas on regional and international issues. They share membership in international organizations such as the United Nations (UN) and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), among other international organizations.

In November 2021, Uganda, through its Foreign Minister, General Abubakar Jiji Odongo, invited Saudi investors to invest in agriculture, mining, tourism, healthcare, information technology, and communications, as well as to expand imports from Uganda to include fruits, vegetables, spices, milk, and grains. This also included a call to benefit from investment incentives offered by Uganda.

Uganda is also one of the largest beneficiaries of Saudi Arabia’s annual investments, exceeding one billion dollars in Africa. It has played a pivotal role in alleviating the burden of the COVID-19 pandemic on the continent. Additionally, Uganda can benefit from Saudi expertise, particularly in industry, trade, technical skills in oil, agriculture, governance, and other leading and vital fields.
